Between
25,000 and 40,000 from the U.S. and around the world were expected to attend all or part of the convention which included the National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service and candlelight vigil to honor officers who have given their lives in service. Last year 40 officers died while in service, according to preliminary estimates, an increase of 18 percent from 2011.  California had the most number of law enforcement deaths (7), followed by Arkansas (4).
