Waiting on Constitution Avenue for the Washington Capitals Championship Parade to begin, June 12, 2018. Those around me and I decided we were brilliant to go to the start of the parade under the trees (shade) and with plenty of room (at least for a little while before the parade started) at the fence to receive towels and beads.  Go, Caps!  I got there about 9:30 a.m. for the 11 a.m. start.  We got to see the three planes from the Air Force fly overhead, but it was a seconds' only viewing since the trees obscured most of the flyovers and the planes flew not up Constitution, which would have been really cool, but across Constitution near the Potomac River before the parade's starting point at 18th/Photo by Patricia Leslie

That's Coach Barry Trotz on the far right with Capitals team member Jakub Vrana #13. It seemed weird that Trotz was not riding on the last bus with Capitals owner Ted Leonsis and the Capitals' captain and alternate captains, but maybe not so weird since Trotz is in the catbird seat and can ride wherever he wants to ride in the Washington Capitals Championship Parade, June 12, 2018.  We hope you stay, Coach Trotz!  Update: June 18, 2018:  With Trotz' announced departure (sad face!), his ride on the Not Number One Bus is not so surprising,  I guess, but as my aunt used to always say:  Always go out on top and Trotz did just that.  Fare thee well, Coach Trotz.  I hope your team wins the Stanley next year to show these snide Snyder Cap owners you were the best and well worth the money.  Let them have their assistant coach.  You think he'll get to the playoffs?  Naaaaaahhhhhh.  For one shining moment, the Caps were on top in D.C.  In less than a week, it's over/Photo by Patricia Leslie

Alex Ovechkin hoists the Stanley Cup on Constitution Avenue behind the White House in the Washington Capitals Championship Parade, June 12, 2018. It was fitting that he raised the Cup at the White House when several "Ovechkin for President" signs were seen during the day at the parade. If Trump thinks Ovechkin is competitive, Trump might start calling Ovechkin bad words like he uses for everybody else.  No, wait, Ovechkin is Russian.  Never mind/Photo by Patricia Leslie

Puckheads at the Capitals

Just take a look at these four guys in fancy headgear, the number which just happens to match the number of goals the Washington Capitals earned last Saturday night v. the Columbia Blue Jackets at the Verizon Center in Washington. The final score:  Caps, 4 and Columbia, 1/Patricia Leslie
The ceiling crowd is a mite rowdier than the more sophisticated audience down below which can afford fancier seats.  This was in Section 411, Rows M and N, not far from the ceiling. Up here we are called "ceiling fans." Yo ho ho and a bottle of beer/Patricia Leslie
Before the game started and pictured on the big screen in the center of the ice was a young cancer victim who was honored while Caps Captain Alexander Ovechkin (8) and a Blue Jacket got ready to play/Patricia Leslie

Pictured on the big screen was Corporal Brandon Tillsonkorona from Raynham, MA, honored for his military service and deployment to Afghanistan.  Fans stand, applaud, and cheer the troops, recognized by the Caps at every game/Patricia Leslie

Bob McDonald sang The Star Spangled Banner before the start of the Caps/Blue Jackets game.  Said Patricia:  If I had been near the ice rather than the ceiling, photos of the game would have been lots better/Patricia Leslie

Caps zap Phils on fight night

On the big screen was a big fight between Tom Wilson and a Philadelphia Flyer Friday night at Verizon.  Wilson, a 19-year-old forward from Toronto, won the battle/Patricia Leslie

Okay, boys and girls, you want fights?  You had 'em Friday night at Verizon when the Caps played the Philly Flyers and came out victorious in the boxing ring and ice rink, too.  The final score:  6-3, and we got wings.  (You have to go to a game to find out what this means.)

This photo is deceiving since the Caps won all the fights and the game/Patricia Leslie

There were so many fights Heidi and I lost count, and they happened so fast it was tough to aim, focus, and fire the camera, but you get the picture.  Is everything Philadelphia always so rough and tumbly? Of course. It's Philadelphia.  No disrespect intended!  Just the facts, m'am.

Usher!  Usher!  There's a scrum below Section 119/Patricia Leslie

Rather than a pre-season game when play might not as fierce as a regular game, this one was p-u-r-t-y muscular, and here we go!  What a season awaits.  Go, Caps, go!  At the last preseason game Saturday the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Caps 4-3 in overtime. The Caps' preseason record is 4 - 4.

Helmets off! Caps win/Patricia Leslie

One more slugfest for the fans, please, and the Caps win again/Patricia Leslie

The Caps' game vs. the Nashville Predators Wednesday night was a bit tamer, and the Caps won 4-1/Patricia Leslie

SMSGT. Thomas Lenig is recognized for his military service at the Caps/Flyers game.  In tribute to the troops, fans pause, stand, and cheer all those in military service at every game. We are grateful/Patricia Leslie
